September brought with it cooler weather and more frequent rain showers—perfect timing, as core aeration and seeding season is in full swing. Our crews have been out for a couple of weeks now, double core aerating and seeding with our proprietary blend of Virginia Green seed.

Core aeration and seeding is the best opportunity to repair a lawn after the recent summer heat and drought. Tall Fescue lawns do not recover without aeration and seeding, making this crucial service one Virginia Green recommends annually. Not only does it repair summer damage, but it helps improve soil, turning over the top layer and bringing better water penetration and oxygen into the root zone. We use a blend of Turf-type Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass seed, free of any crop and weed seed, sourced from the Willamette Valley region of Oregon and exclusive to Virginia Green.

Our Service Leaders are also busy applying all the necessary nutrients to local lawns, including phosphorus and potassium, both essential for seed germination and winter hardiness. Some winter annuals may show up in the next few weeks, but we will be back to providing weed control soon once seeding season is completed.
