September has brought cooler weather and more frequent rain showers, which is perfect timing as core aeration and seeding season is now in full swing. Our crews have been hard at work for the past few weeks, double core aerating and seeding with our proprietary blend of Virginia Green seed.

Core aeration and seeding is the best way to repair your lawn after the challenges of summer heat and drought. Tall Fescue lawns won’t bounce back on their own without this process, which is why Virginia Green recommends it each year. It not only addresses summer damage but also improves the soil by turning over the top layer and allowing better water penetration and oxygen to reach the root zone. We use a custom mix of Turf-type Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass seed, free of crop and weed seed, sourced from the Willamette Valley in Oregon and available exclusively through Virginia Green.

We’ll be continuing core aeration and seeding through the first week of November. If you haven’t scheduled this important service yet, now is the time.

Our Service Leaders are also applying key nutrients to local lawns, including phosphorus and potassium, which are essential for seed germination and improving winter hardiness. You may notice a few winter annuals popping up over the next few weeks, but weed control will resume as soon as the seeding season wraps up.
